The InBetween

Would you agree that fall is a season most people love? Have you wondered why it is so short-lived? Tucked away between a long summer and an ever-looming winter, comes Fall with its flying colors. Fall appeals to our five senses making it one of our favorite seasons. I thought of seven reasons why Fall tops the favorite season list. Do you have one to add to the list?

1.      The weather welcomes long walks and front porch swings.

2.      The foliage invites picture-taking and takes my breath away.

3.      The food warms my tastebuds and tummy.

4.      The comforters come out and make for cozy snuggles.

5.      Thanksgiving comes nestled in this season. I have so much to be thankful for.

6.      The clothes in my closet, especially jeans, make a comeback!

7.      My outdoor activities increase, including family and friends as we make more memories.

My porch faces the east, so I have enjoyed watching the movement of the sun as it rises each morning. This summer the sunrises started to my left and have moved right along the eastern hemisphere. Although the sun rises in the east it has moved in a north-to-south path. The sun stays stationary while the earth rotates creating over the course of a year a figure 8 pattern scientists call an analemma. The sun’s pattern on earth during the fall is perfect for fall foliage to flourish.

On another note, how about a fall garden? I hear some of you groan, saying my summer garden almost did me in. Well, consider a fall garden because it can produce a variety of crops in cooler temps and provide fresh greens well into the winter. The Almanac says so and you know it is a good source of information.

Whatever you decide to do during this Fall season, enjoy it to the full. Like most of life, we live thinking about what lies ahead and miss what is right in front of us. Take time to look around, make some memories, and be thankful for this in-between season called Fall.

Until next month, remember, the matters of the heart are the heart of the matter.
